May 15, 2024 Update:
Dear WHES Families, Faculty, and Staff,
I hope you are having a great week. I am writing today to inform you of a project regarding our school building.
At its meeting Tuesday night, the Hanover County School Board unanimously adopted the Fiscal Year 2025 budget, including the five-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). As I shared with you in January,
included in the CIP is funding for the replacement of our school building with the design of the rebuilt school taking place in 2024-25 and construction the following two years for a 2027-28 school year opening.
With this vote, the replacement of our school is officially moving forward. I hope you will join me in my excitement for this investment in the future of our school, which will serve generations to come. This is an exciting opportunity for our school, and I look forward to working with you throughout this process. I assure you that we will keep you informed during this construction project.
As always, if you have any questions about our school, please feel free to reach out to me. For questions about the budget and the associated Capital Improvement Plan, please email
[email protected].
Thank you for your support and enthusiasm.
With gratitude,

Dear Families,
I hope you are having a great week. I am writing today to inform you of a potential project regarding our school building.
At last night’s School Board meeting, Dr. Michael Gill, Superintendent of Schools, presented his proposed Fiscal Year 2025 budget and part of that presentation included the proposed five-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
Included in the proposed plan is funding for the replacement of our school building with the design of the rebuilt school taking place in 2024-25 and construction the following two years for a 2027-28 school year opening.
The School Board is scheduled to vote on the CIP in February before it is then considered by the Board of Supervisors. The School Board is scheduled to vote on the adoption of the budget and CIP this spring after the Board of Supervisors votes to adopt its budget.
As you may know,
a facilities study commissioned by the School Board in 2018 recommended a replacement of our school building.
While these plans are still preliminary and there are many steps that need to be taken before this plan becomes reality, I hope you will join me in my excitement for this potential investment in the future of our school, which would serve generations to come.
Again,
this remains in the proposal stage, but I recognize that any project of this magnitude would generate significant interest, and I wanted to be sure that everyone in our community is aware of this possibility.
I assure you that we will keep you informed throughout this process. This is an exciting opportunity for our school, and I look forward to working with you should these plans materialize.
As always, if you have any questions about our school, please feel free to reach out to me. For questions about the proposed budget and the associated Capital Improvement Plan, please email

Thank you for your support and enthusiasm.
