Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures

Three students doing a classroom activityStudents may enter the building between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. We do not offer adult supervision for students prior to 7:30 a.m. We will supervise students who arrive between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. in the cafeteria until it is time to report to their classrooms. Our school day officially begins at 8:00 a.m.; therefore, we consider any students arriving after 8:00 a.m. tardy. If your child arrives after 8:00 a.m., please park and enter the building to sign him/her in so he/she can receive a tardy pass. Please strive to have your children at school and on time daily. It will help them develop a positive pattern and create independent students.

Morning Arrival for Car Riders

You may drop your child off at school beginning at 7:30 a.m. The designated area for student drop-off is in front of our school. We will have a staff member present beginning at 7:30 a.m. to supervise students as they make their way into the building. We will help kindergarten students and those with special needs exit their vehicles. We encourage all other students to open the door closest to the sidewalk to ensure individual safety.

Notifying Staff of Changes in Afternoon Dismissal Plans

If you need to alter your child’s typical dismissal plan, please send a note to your child’s teacher in the morning. If an emergency arises and you need to make a last minute change, please call the school office at 723-2300 before 1:30 p.m. We will not accept an e-mail or text for transportation changes.

Early Dismissal for Appointments

If your child has a medical appointment that requires early dismissal, please complete and send in a note to make your child’s teacher and our office staff aware. Parents who wish to pick their children up prior to our regular dismissal time at 2:20 p.m. should plan to pick them up in the office before 2:00 p.m.

Procedures for Parent Pick-Up

We are excited to implement a new “drive-through” process for parent pick-up at dismissal time to improve our efficiency and increase student safety. Our procedure follows:

  • Enter the “drive-through” parent pick-up line and remain in the car.
  • Clearly display the WHES Parent Pick-Up Pass on your dashboard so we can easily see it.
  • Our staff members will direct cars in an orderly fashion to safely line up at dismissal. Please pull your car up as close as possible to the car in front of you.
  • Please be prepared to provide a picture ID to the staff member on duty.
  • If you are the lead car, please pull up to the very front of the parking lot loop next to the staff member on duty to allow as many children as possible to be dropped off (or picked up) at once.
  • We will have pick-up tags available at our open house and in the office for students whose primary transportation home each day will be as a car rider. (This is not for the occasional parent pick-up that may occur throughout the school year.) Please print your child’s last name in the blank portion of the numbered sign using a permanent black marker (such as a Sharpie) in large, block-printed lettering. Place the sign in the front, side window of your car.
  • When you approach the front of the line, a staff member will radio indoors for your child to come out and meet you.
  • If you pull up without a numbered sign displayed (or if you walk up to the area where we are dismissing car ride students), we will direct you to park in the parking lot and go into the office to sign your child out. We require anyone without a numbered tag to sign his/her child out from the office

Thank you so much for following these procedures carefully. We have these in place to help ensure a safe and orderly dismissal for all of our students.
