Three happy studentsWashington-Henry Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTA) is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers to provide valuable support, services, and programs to the WHES community. The primary goal of the PTA is to strengthen our family units, our schools, and our communities through parent/family involvement. PTA recognizes parents as the first educators in the home and works to promote parents as partners in the school. PTA also gives families the tools they need to create an environment at home that supports the positive changes happening at school. Washington-Henry’s PTA is a local unit of the National PTA and Virginia PTA.

Mission Statement

At Washington-Henry, we want to help make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children through collaboration, commitment, diversity, respect, and accountability.

PTA Reflections Program

The annual national Reflections arts recognition program is underway and open to students in kindergarten through 5th grade! All submissions must be turned in to the front office or emailed to Beth Mayo, Washington-Henry PTA reflections chair, by 9:00 a.m. on October 26, 2020. Late submissions will not be judged due to the policy of the reflections art program.

Students should create an original work based on this year's theme “I Matter Because". Students may enter more than one category, but each entry should have its own entry form attached. See below for reflection rules per category. The Virginia PTA has created a You Tube video highlighting examples of each category. Categories include dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.

  1. Reflect on the 2020 theme: “I Matter Because" Think about what it means to you.
  2. Print a general entry form for each category you enter.
  3. Entries may be turned in to the front office or sent digitally via email before 9:00 a.m. on October 26, 2020

The Reflections recognition ceremony date and location is to be determined. Entries are judged locally and the statesmen winners (two for each category) advance to the Hanover County Council. From there, your entry could move on to the state level or even to the national level. Winners at the national level have their art displayed at national art galleries around the country!
