Summer Reading

Stay smart this summer with our summer math and reading together (SMART) chart! We will invite students who complete at least 20 of these activities to a celebration at the beginning of the next school year. Happy reading!


  • Bake something and double the recipe.
  • Read a book and then watch the movie version.
  • Count change left on the counter.
  • Read a book that has a dog in it.
  • Finish a Sadoku puzzle.
  • Read three books in a series.
  • Read a book set in a place you want to visit (Hawaii, Paris, New York City, Egypt, etc.).
  • Build a reading fort.
  • Play Yahtzee with a friend.
  • Read a book published the year you were born.
  • Sidewalk chalk math fun.
  • Write a haiku about your favorite book.
  • Read three books in a series.
  • Hour of Code
  • Use cards to make math games.
  • Make a pretend store and count money.
  • Go to a library program.
  • Measure how much sand fits in a sand bucket (cups, tablespoons, etc.).
  • Read a book outside.
  • Try a genre you don't usually read.
  • Read a Caldecott or Newbery book.
  • Do a shape, symmetry, or other math scavenger hunt.
  • Time a relay race or activity.
  • Share a book on our school Facebook page.
  • Ask you librarian for a recommendation.
  • Make a fraction pizza.
  • Read a book aloud to someone else.
  • Read five picture books in one day.
  • Have a book and bites party on your own as a family or with friends.
